If the Holy Spirit Comes Into a Person, Don’t the Demons Have to Leave?

By Don Ibbitson

If the Holy Spirit comes into a person, don’t the demons have to leave?

The answer is no. Some contend that if they had demons before they got saved, or when they were sinners in the world, that when the Holy Spirit came in that the bad spirits or demons had to leave. They contend that you cannot have the Holy Spirit and demon spirits in the same house (or temple) if you like.

The only scripture they can reference is 2 Cor 6:14 which asks the question about what fellowship can light have with darkness? The implication is that when the light of the Holy Spirit comes in the darkness of the demons has to leave. Look at the Scripture in context. That is an incorrect application and interpretation. The passage talks about being in business, or being in a relationship, with unbelievers.

We have seen many Christians, who have the Holy Spirit in them, also get set free from demonic spirits during deliverance so both can be in the same house!

Are a Person’s Problems Demonic or Mental/ Emotional?

By Don Ibbitson

How do you know if a person’s problems are demonic or just mental//emotional

The demonic realm is real but there are not demons behind every problem in a person’s life. Everyone has a mind and a will and we make choices on a daily basis. Counseling can help better decision-making. Problems can have a demonic root if there are areas in our sould, such as anger, depression, fear, lusts and so on, where a person cannot get the victory after repeated attempts at prayer, counseling, praying, reading the Word and doing all that we need to do. Those are indicators or evidences that the problem may have a demonic root.

Is There A Scripture To Prove Christians Cannot Have Demons?

By Don Ibbitson

Is there are Scriptures that proves Christians CANNOT have demons?

There is not a single scripture that addresses this question. Typically, some persons will reference 2Cor 6:14 which asks what fellowship can light have with darkness. They try imply that when the light of the Holy Spirit comes in that the darkness of the demons have to flee. That is a misapplication of that scripture because, in context, it speaks about being yoked with unbelievers in business or marriage.

What is the Difference Between Demon Possession and Oppression?

By Don Ibbitson

What is the difference between demon possession and oppression?

The term possession implies ownership. You own or possess your car and home. The bible teaches us that believers become a child of God with the Holy Spirit in us. A person is demon-possessed, if you like, or belongs to satan, when the demons are not opposed by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The term oppressed means keep down by severe and unjust use of fear or authority. This type of torment can come from inside of us or outside of us or from spirits on the outside by putting thoughts in our mind to drive us away from the truth of the blessings of God.

Can A Christian Be Demon Possessed?

By Don Ibbitson

Can Christians Be Demon Possessed?

A Christian, one who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior has been adopted into the household of God. That is we become a child of God. God is our Father. Jesus has bought us, or redeemed us, with his death and resurrection on the cross. Therefore, Christians are GOD-possessed. To use a modern-day analogy: have you ever heard someone say that their house was termite-possessed? Of course not! You own or possesses the house but the termites are inside seeking to destroy it. We belong to God so the demonic realm cannot possess us. However, they can indwell us, torment us and work to kill, steal and destroy.
