What are the requirements for deliverance ministry to be successful?

As with any Christian counseling efforts, a key requirement for someone getting ministered to is that they truly want to be free! We only minister deliverance to those who profess Christ as their Savior. We ask them to stir up their faith (notice I didn’t’ say go away and get MORE faith) for Christ to do a work and do the necessary preparation, if any, prescribed by their minister who hopefully is competent in this area. “Drive-by” deliverances where one secretly calls spirits out of a person, against their will or without their knowledge, are typically not effective. The person being ministered to must be an active and willing participant.

Can you catch a demon from someone?

Most Christian churches spend very little time educating the saints about the nature, strategies and tactics of demonic realm. Christians therefore have a distorted or very incomplete understanding of how demons function. Hollywood movies also stir up fear which makes people more nervous about interactions with demons. The reality is that Christians cannot jump upon people; you cannot catch them like you might get a cold or virus. They need an entry point or open door and there are many of these, including curses, occult sin, sexual sin, unforgiveness to name just a few. Once they are in, they need to be kicked out either sovereignly by God or by a competent deliverance minister.

Can’t God alone deliver us from demons?

Yes, people often receive deliverance from strongholds without any one ministering to us or laying hands on us? It certainly can and does happen. Many times it’s because the person has , even unknowingly, closed the open door for the torment through forgiveness or breaking a curse, for example. . However, just as with healing, it is one of the ministries that Jesus gave to His body, the church, when he said we were to lay hands on the sick and also drive out demons. Christ does the work but he has given believers power and authority to do this ministry.
