Make the Voices In My Head Stop!

By Don Ibbitson

make the voices in my head stopI saw a t-shirt recently that said “The voices in my head don’t like you” and it reminded me of people who we’ve ministered to who have had the voices silenced.

Some number of clients we see are on psychotropic medications for various afflictions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and more. The overwhelming majority of them are very unsatisfied with the effectiveness of these medications and their short visits with their medical professional typically involves whether to increase dosage, decrease it or try another.

These chemical cocktails some are ingesting, with limited results and significant side effects, are a testimony to the ineffectiveness of medical profession for providing solutions or healing in the mental and emotional realm. The medications are a temporary Band-Aid at best and typically result in the person going through the day in a perpetual state of stupor.

Demon Spirits Can Speak To Us In Our Mind

I had the mother of a client one time who had been a nurse in the psychiatric ward of a hospital for over twenty years. After she heard our teachings about the demonic realm and spiritual roots of sickness and disease, she told me that she had long ago concluded that the patient’s problems were spiritual and not demonic.

Doesn’t it make sense to almost anybody that these voices are evidences of demonic torment? Do these voices ever tell people to go feed the poor, read their bibles or go to church? Isn’t’ there a universal theme here? The voices almost invariably are encouraging the victim to go hurt themselves or someone else.

Jesus healed and delivered people that we would label today as mentally ill (Matthew 8, Matthew 17, Luke 4 and more). Why should we be skeptical of the notion that it is demons and not chemical/hormonal imbalances that is behind their torment? If it was “medical” issue, wouldn’t the medications cure them?

I value and respect the medical profession for their areas of expertise and we have seen that medications can be helpful to stabilize a person so they can receive counsel and ministry. In fact, we have had a psychiatrist come through our deliverance ministry who had determined that the issues that they were treating people for with medications were spiritual and not physiological!

We have ministered to people, and know of many others, who have seen the power and word of God set them free from mental and emotional disorders. Jesus is our Healer and Deliverer and if people would look to him with more passion and hunger in this area than they do their doctors, more would be set free!

What do you think? Can medications heal people of mental and emotional disorders or are they simply helping people to cope?
